Charles Edward Channels, Sr. was born February 14, 1932 in Dayton, OH to Margaret Thomas and Clinton Cunningham. He was raised by Margaret Thomas and Alonzo Channels in Springfield, OH.
Charles was introduced to the Lord at an early age. He worked in the service industry at country clubs and he was blessed to meet his wife, Wilma Jean Crochran. They had four children in this union. After the death of his wife, he had a hard time but was blessed once again to be introduced to a wife, his wife of 56 years, Norma Jean Harney. Charles moved to Cleveland, OH with his wife where he was blessed to have two children.
In Cleveland, he worked for the Sheraton Hotel and Al’s Court and Lounge from which he retired. He became a member of Starlight Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor Edward Small. He was a faithful member of the church and sang in the Pastor’s Aide and the Male Chorus. In 2005, he lost his son, Clinton, along with his wife and the mother of his child, he and Norma raised their granddaughter Morgan. In later years, he moved to Columbus, OH with Norma.
Charles Channels, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 7, 2018 from Grant Medical Center.
Charles Channels, Sr. was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Thomas, his father, Clinton Cunningham, his stepfather, Alonzo Channels, his first wife, Wilma Jean Channels, his brothers, Harry Channels, Eugene Channels and Larry (Brenda) Channels, daughter in law, Gwen Murphy, sons, Clinton Channels and Harry (Mary) Channels.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Norma Jean Channels, his children, Elder Edwin (Belinda) Channels, Cassaundra Channels, Stephen (Mable) Channels, Teresa Fisher-Channels, Charles Channels, Jr. (Rolanda), and Keith (Valerie) Crochran and, spiritual son Mervin (Sandy) Hines, sisters Mary (Paul) Beamus, Kathy (Charles) Black, Sheila Rice, Joyce Walker, sisters–in-law Joan and Mary Channels, Pastor Betty Hairston and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
