Elsie Marie McAllister (nee Phillips) was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 5, 1930 to John and Gladys (nee Milton) Phillips. Following boarding school in North Carolina, Elsie studied Journalism at The Ohio State University.
In 1947, She married Master Sergeant Norman L. McAllister of the United States Air Force. They started a family with their first child, Norma Marie McAllister followed by Norman L. McAllister. As the family traveled the world, six other children followed: Donna Robinson (nee McAllister), Donald McAllister, Diane McAllister, Dina Hill (nee McAllister), Denette McAllister, and Dawn McAllister. Settling into Columbus Ohio, she went into the workforce and eventually found a career with the State of Ohio at the Department of Development/Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) where she retired. She found joy in retirement, gardening and baking.
She is preceded in death by her former husband, Norman; her parents and her eldest child, Norma Bliss. On November 25, 2019, she passed unexpectedly after complications related to a stroke.
She is survived by seven of her eight children, grandchildren: Dr. Aminah Bliss, Crystal Gwinn, Dawn McAllister, Austin McAllister, Danielle McAllister and great grandchildren: Ekrem and Ozan.
