Paul Hoover, Sr.

I was given the gift of life and now I have to give it back. This is hard. But, I was a blessed man who led a blessed existence and for this I am grateful!

Paul Lawrence Hoover Sr. “Called on the Lord and received an answer,” to be with the Lord.

Paul Lawrence Hoover, 84, departed this life on Thursday, January 24, 2019 surrounded by family, at the Village of Westerville in Westerville, Ohio. He was born on March 27, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Jake and Betty Hoover.

Paul enjoyed making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Paul was a proud member of Refuge Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a member of the Refuge Male Chorus, a member of the Senior Ministry, security for the Food Pantry and delivered monthly food boxes to the seniors. Paul was always there to help relatives and friends with whatever they needed him for. He always listened to people, never left anyone out and had a real passion for serving his church, family and community. He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Hoover; daughter Linda Jean Underdown; sisters Ellen Austin and Dorethea Richardson; brothers Herbert Hoover, Charles Hoover, Donald Hoover and Roy Hoover.

He is survived by special friend, Jewelline Moore; sons Paul Hoover Jr., Gary (Cathy) Hoover and Terry Hoover; daughters Brenda Davis, Renata Hoover, Jacqueline Hoover-Pullins and Shermaine (Robert) Hill; sisters Geraldine Hayes and Bernice Davis; brother, William “Bill” Hoover; twenty (20) grandchildren; fifty-one (51) great-grandchildren, and twelve (12) great, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
