Mrs. Alice Theresa Brooks Birden was born November 4, 1919, in North Carolina, to the late Marvin and Mattie Reeves Brooks.
Alice and her husband, George I. Birden, Sr., were married for 59 wonderful years. They met while Alice was attending North Carolina A&T as a Nursing student, when she was selected to give a college tour to him. During this tour, George found the wife he had been looking for, and from that moment he made it his business to marry Alice. They dated for a short time and were married three months later. Two years after being married, George accepted a job in Columbus, Ohio, and they relocated. To this union, three children were born: George “Nicky” Birden, Jr., Brenda Pearson, and Marilyn Foster, all of Columbus, Ohio.
Theresa served as a private duty nurse for many years. Due to her impeccable service and care, she gained enough positive word of mouth to be hired by many wealthy families in their times of need, resting in knowing that she would take great care of their loved one.
In 1950, she joined the Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served as a faithful member until her health no longer allowed her to. She loved to write children’s stories and poetry and wrote many for the church. She was well known for playing her harmonica, which she loved and cherished being able to do even up until recently. In the past, she and her father would sit on the porch and play together.
T, as she was affectionately called, was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mattie Reeves Brooks, four brothers, five sisters, and beloved son, George “Nicky”. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Brenda Pearson and Marilyn Foster; sister, Elois Brooks; and a host of grand and great-grandchildren, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
