God put to rest Alvin Douglas Foster better known as Alfalfa, Mr. Foster, Dad, Grandpa or Al of Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, May 03, 2026 at Riverview Rehabilitation Facility. He was born on December 28, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio and raised in an area he loved and was proud of known as “Fly Town” to Albert and Mildred Foster. He attended Central High School and was an accomplished athlete in Basketball (Honors for All-State), Track and Field/Cross Country and Football (Honorable Mention).
In 1959, Alvin met LaVona Ann Foster known back then as Al’s Gal. Together, they built a strong, faith-filled marriage of 63 1/2 years. The couple raised their 3 boys and 4 Foster Children and built a life rooted in love and faith. Alvin was a dedicated employee of AEP, Ohio as a Customer Service Investigator and retired in 2002.
He enjoyed gospel music especially The Sensational Nightingales even traveling with them on occasion around Ohio and South Carolina. Known for his humor always telling jokes and extra long food blessings. Alvin brought much joy to many with his positive outlook. Alvin was like a gentle giant who was kind and just an overall good guy. He gave his heart to Christ and became a devoted member of Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church (Over 40 years) where he served faithfully as a Deacon, member of The Adventist Men, Hospitality Department, The Ephesus Senior Choir and Funeral Department. Alvin loved his church and went above and beyond to take care of it and was his pride and joy. Alvin was there for anyone in need especially his family.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mildred Foster; brothers Howard, Wayne, Ronald and Carl and sisters Shirley and Sandra.
He is survived by his wife, LaVona Ann Foster and sister Jacqueline Foster ; Three children, Steven Douglas Foster(Karen), Michael(Lee) Foster and LaMont Alvin Foster(Christina);Louis McMorris (Step Mother-in-Law) and Karen Johnson(Step Sister-in Law)Medina Oh; Doris Chandler (Step Sister-in-Law) Ok, Loyal Foster Son James Keith Madden, grandchildren, Chana Renee Rivers (Markilo), Stephanie Foster and Steven Foster, Jr(Jersey), along with 7 great-grandchildren,1 great great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
