Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Amber Marie Scott was born September 9, 1989, at 5:11am in Columbus, Ohio. Amber was born three months premature, with serve Cerebral Palsy, MRDD, hearing impaired and seizures. Amber was 2lbs, 15oz and 15” long. Amber inspired her mother to form Special Ties, a non-profit organization for families of special needs children. From 1990 to 2002, Special Ties helped over 12,00 families throughout Central Ohio with support, education and advocating for special needs children. Amber has endured several surgeries in her lifetime. God had a way of bringing her through it all. The family believed in mainstreaming Amber and made sure Amber was involved in several events and organizations. In 2009 Amber graduated from Northeast MRDD school. Amber came in runner up for homecoming queen.
Amber was a member of Second Baptist Church where she was baptized, December 6, 1998. A highlight in Amber’s life when she was a 2006 Star Lite Cotillion. Amber was featured in the Columbus Dispatch as the first wheelchair debutante. Her hobbies were listed as: listening to music, reading, watching television. Having the ability to be an inspiration to others, by enduring many challenges in her young life and always having a smile on her face. Amber worked at Goodwell and ARC Industries for the past 18 years. Amber enjoyed being with family for holidays and birthday celebrations. Favorite song, “Happy Birthday”, she would get so excited.
Amber loved outings, which included shopping, movies and plays. Amber’s favorite past time, going to the skating rink. The loud music and lights she loved being pushed in her wheelchair. Our family enjoyed getting our exercise walking around the skating rink with Amber for hours. Amber received from The Ohio State University, Nisonger Center, a certificate of completion. In recognition for completing the 2018 Pre-Vocational Integrated Education and Campus Experience (PIECE) project Friday, August 10, 2018.
Special note from her mother: Her grandfather John Williams use to say, “a day without Amber was a day without sunshine” she had a very special part of his heart. Amber has been a gift from God to her mother and family. Amber has shown that through the mist of pain, she always had a smile. Amber loves gospel music; it’s like something in her soul that knows the connection of praise. We believe Amber feels God’s presence when she listens and sings gospel music. Like in the poem “Footprints”. I knew God has carried Amber throughout her life, since she is unable to walk, but now God has allowed her to walk with in Him in heaven. I can’t wait to see her running towards me when she gets here.
