To some, Antoine was quiet, reserved and thought to be a mean guy that didn’t smile to often. Those that knew him, knew that was not the case. He was quiet, but talked when he needed to,
not just to have something to say. He was far from mean and would give you anything you needed if he had it to give. He was the life of the party and he made sure that those around him had a good time as well. He always made something out of nothing and made sure to do whatever he could to help. Some knew him as “Mr. Make it Happen” because was always trying to work it out and usually did.
Antoine attended Marion Franklin High School his freshman through junior years. He played on the football team and ran track. In his senior year, he, along with Alex Daniels and Keith Massey, transferred to Brookhaven High School. Together, with Dominic Jones, they were able to take the Brookhaven Bearcats to an undefeated season with a 15-0 record. That year, Brookhaven won the 2004 Division II State Championship game against Avon Lake 42-21. This was a first for a Columbus City Schools team. During that championship game, Antoine was the leading rusher for Brookhaven with 155 yards and scored a touchdown.
Antoine loved spending time with his family and his friends. He would never miss an opportunity to host or attend a family gathering, kids sporting event, birthday party, a cookout, a performance, a competition, a vacation or any trip, if he didn’t have to drive. He was the hype man for flying instead of driving and would hop on a plane in an instant. If you knew how he lived, you knew he was making memories wherever he went and was always with someone that was an important part in his life. If he told you he was going to show up, he made every effort to do so, even if it was just for a few minutes.
Antoine had many close friends that he considered his brothers. They spent a lot of time together and sometimes experienced ‘firsts’ together. He would not have been who he was without the support of his brothers Flame Newton, Alex Daniels, Mike Onyejekwe, Jeffrey ‘JRoc’ Booker, William ‘Woo’ Wagner, Mison Culberson, Halbert ‘Bert’ Peeks, Ray Pinager, Keith Massey, Tequay Hairston, John Hughes, Ben Orange and Gamaal Kelley. These men always showed up and showed out for each other.
We are all better for having known Antoine and having him be a part of our lives. If in some way you were blessed to experience his kindness, his friendship, his laughter, his sense of humor, his support, or just his time, you experienced his love. If there is one thing that we can all benefit from knowing Antoine – He lived with no Regrets. Antoine LaMaur Roberts – Always in our Hearts!
