Barbara G. Lanier was born April 19, 1933 in Mt. Airy, N.C. She transitioned to Glory surrounded by her loving family on August 4, 2024 in Columbus, OH. Sister Lanier was the widow of Elder John B. Lanier.
Barbara Lanier attended High Schools in Mt. Airy, NC. and Beckley, West Virginia. She also attended OSU. She retired from Columbus Public Schools with 25 years of service.
In her lifetime, Sister Lanier was an usher for the Ohio Theater and the King Arts Center. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross Association and a past member of the International Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows of Columbus Ohio. She was also a judge with the AAU Boxing Commission, and she was a contestant in the Ms. National Senior Citizen Pageant. Sister Lanier traveled many places in the United States and Europe, Caribbean Islands, and the Holy Land. She had a fondness for driving miniature race cars.
Sister Lanier was best known for having a card ministry for about 60 years in which she would send out cards for every occasion and holiday. Only in sickness, did this ministry stop.
Barbara Lanier is survived by devoted children, Tony Giles, Gary (Crystal) Giles of Columbus, Oh., and Carl (Marjorie) Giles of Mansfield, OH. She is also survived by many cousins and friends, including residents of the Hilltop Senior Village, Lincoln Village, and her Bible Way church family, especially, Edith and John Clay.
Mom was a beacon of light and a source of great inspiration to her family, extended family and her community. She will always be loved, fondly remembered and deeply missed. Rest in Glory.
