Brenda Mundell Obituary

Brenda Delores Mundell was born on October 3, 1948 in Mounds, IL to the late Willie "Peck" and Parlie O'Neal. Mundell passed to her rest on October 26, 2020 at the age of 72 at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Brenda accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Mounds, IL. Brenda attended Douglas High School in Mounds, IL. After leaving Mounds, she moved to Columbus, Ohio. She married John Wesley Mundell; to this union two children were born: Kim and John (Man).

She worked in the healthcare field for several years until she retired from Ohio Rehabilitation and Subacute care in 2013. Brenda had always been passionate about taking care of others. She met many close friends wherever she worked. Brenda was known as a good listener, caring, compassionate, loving, and a dedicated employee to many.

Brenda enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was most popular for her macaroni and cheese, collard greens, pasta salad, and chicken wings. She loved spending time with family and friends, eating good soul food, and listening to music. Brenda had a knack for collecting family pictures and memorabilia from various states. Some of her favorite TV shows were cooking shows, Dr. Pimple Popper, The Incredible Dr. Pol, and old movies. Brenda was an avid fan of Michael Jordan and President Barack Obama. However, her #1 fan was Donald Brittman, her long-term companion of 35 years.

For over the last 50 years, Brenda always looked forward to attending the O’Neal Family Reunion to reminisce with her family. In fact, in 2017, she won a contest for having the most O’Neal Family Reunion t-shirts. In addition, she thoroughly enjoyed visiting her daughter and family every time they moved to a new state (Maryland, Virginia, New York, Missouri and most recently Virginia again). She was a proud grandmother, and had just recently became a great-grandmother to Madison.

She leaves to treasure her memory her daughter, Kimberlyn (Kevin) McDonald of Charlottesville, VA, one grandson, Rodney D. (Monique) Osborne, Jr. of Ankeny, IA; two grand-daughters, Kayla McDonald of Columbia, MO; Kesslyn McDonald of Baton Rouge, LA; and one great-grand-daughter, Madison Simone Osborne of Ankeny, IA. She also left three sisters, Alice Brock of Columbus, OH; Luella Reese of Chicago, IL; Joyce (Henry) Wade of Mounds, IL; and a host of special nieces and nephews, and dear friends:, Jesse Bowman, Tina Tatum, Rosalyn Vaughn and Patricia Williams. Brenda had found her true love and companion Donald Brittman. Donald loved Brenda with all his heart for over 35 years.
