Elder Cecil G. Lytle, a devoted servant of God, loving family man, and pillar in the gospel music community, was called home to eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on December 28, 2024, at the age of 63.
Born on April 4, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to Cecil and Mary Lytle, Elder Cecil’s life was a testimony of unwavering faith, love, and commitment. His family relocated from Chicago to Columbus, OH when he was 9 years old. Elder Cecil carried his faith and passion wherever he went.
A man of many gifts, Cecil attended Shaw University School of Music, where he honed his God-given talent for music. He also served his country faithfully as a Chaplain in the United States Army, offering spiritual guidance and encouragement to those in need. Cecil was also an excellent cook and baker. He enjoyed cooking for his family during the holidays.
Elder Cecil dedicated over 18 years of service as an Elder at The Elevation Church, where he inspired countless souls. His booming voice, infectious joy, and heartfelt devotion to gospel music left an indelible mark on all who heard him. As a Choir Director, singer, songwriter, and orator, he enriched the lives of many, participating in and leading numerous gospel music groups, including:

•Ebenezer Baptist Church Mass Choir (Columbus, OH)
•Pleasant Green Baptist/Elevation Church Praise Team (Columbus, OH)
•Rev. Cecil Lytle and United Praise (Columbus, OH)
•And collaborations with Pastor Lamar Scales and the Major Scales Music Group.
Among his treasured memories was singing backup for the renowned Michael Bolton, a testament to his extraordinary talent.
Elder Cecil was also a dedicated professional, retiring from the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation and Walmart. His vibrant personality made him a beloved presence at Easton Walmart, where his cheerful “Welcome to Walmart” greeted and uplifted countless shoppers.
Preceded in death by his father, Cecil Lytle; his son, William Edwards; and his brother, Wayne Lytle. Elder Cecil’s legacy of love and faith lives on through his family: daughters Ellisa (Brian) Coston, Mikki Edwards, and DeShawna Edwards; brothers Michael Lytle and Kirk (Sarah) Napper; beloved sister-in-law Carla Lytle; aunt Chistianna Gibson; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Elder Cecil G. Lytle’s life was a melody of faith, family, and service. His dedication to the gospel, his booming voice that sang of God’s glory, and his unwavering love for those around him will resonate forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
