Charles Robert Dawson, Jr. was born August 19, 1984, in Columbus, OH and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 39 years old at his group home, Cummington Place, in Columbus, OH. “Robbie,” as he was affectionately known, was the son of April and Charles Dawson, Sr. and was educated in Columbus City Schools.
Robbie was a sports lover and a huge Buckeye fan! He played basketball and football for The Special Olympics, where he felt he was the best player on the team. He loved helping his caregiver, Mike, when he officiated semi-pro football games and would work the concession stand, managing to eat as many hot dogs as possible. Fishing was another favorite pastime for Robbie.
A very loving and caring person, Robbie spent time with caregivers, Mike and Abraham, and their families. He had a special “adopted grandmother,” Grandma Hillmon, who he loved dearly.
Robbie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Robert Dawson, Sr., his grandparents, William and Gladys Carter and Elvin and Ophelia Dawson. He leaves to mourn his passing his adoring mother, April Dawson, whom he called “beautiful and lovely,” when he called her daily; his sisters Shayla Dalice Dawson and Shawnda Darlyn Lyte; his nephew, Nyal Dawson and niece, Charlize Soleil Dawson, who he lovingly called “ his “angel” and “princess.”
He will also be missed by his special Aunt Martha Georgianna Williams and special Cousin, Troy Liggins from Detroit, Michigan. (He and Troy had many debates over who would win between The Buckeyes and Wolverines)! Robbie absolutely loved family! He had special “brothers and sisters” who will miss him dearly, Brian and Jackie Harden and Joe and Shari Strickland. Robbie will especially be remembered for his kindness and the big bear hugs he would give.
