Cheryl Harris Obituary

On July 11, 1949 an angel from heaven descended to earth. Cheryl Lee (Coughenour) Harris born to Gloria LaRue Dukes(Beverlin, Coughenour) and Walter Roy Coughenour was born in the city of Akron, Ohio with fellow siblings.

Cheryl’s life was the truest reflection of endurance and perseverance against all odds. Cheryl attended Garfield High School and took Stna classes. Cheryl also served in the food service industry before becoming disabled.

Cheryl was married to Robert Harris where she conceived Robert Harris Jr. her eldest son, and taught Sunday school. After his death, Cheryl walked with the Lord and stood for family against all odds. She would later give birth to Clifton Harris and Sunny Harris and decided to live life in Compton CA.

Cheryl fought to find the true meaning of love and was a  display of persistence, faith, and courage. Taking life by the horns, Cheryls heart was a true inspiration to many. Her dear friends, Woman, Lelani and Marilyn could all attest that she never knew a stranger and would often share Christ with others. Her hugs gave peace to many storms. Her eyes were full of dreams and hope. Cheryl would move from Compton, CA back to Akron, OH and then later settled in Duluth, MN where she lived for over 20 of her adult years.

The pandemic brought attention to the familys’ need to be together and for Cheryl to come “home”. So in 2020, Cheryl would move back to Ohio to spend her last days with family and friends.

Cheryl enjoyed her leisure time, watching her favorite shows with her “Golden Girl '', best friend Velta Gilbert and her new niece Anika McCorvey and her cat Bitsey and her betta fish named Love.  Life was enjoyed with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, friends Deacon McCorvey, Richard Catlin and Rev. A.C Allen and wife Rose Allen.

Cheryl was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church under the shepherding of Rev. A.C. Allen  and First lady Rose Allen. Cheryl was  the most proud of her family and her 15 grandchildren and her 8 great-grandchildren. She loved her niece, Cathi who stayed with her for her last few years in Minnesota and treasured her first granddaughter Porsha, as well as a host of friends made in Minnesota and Akron.

Cheryl's last request was to die at home with family and friends. While holding her son’s hand and with daughter in law by bedside, Cheryl took her last breath and received her reward on October 15,2022.
