Daryel Rashawn Gordon “Spanky” entered this life November 14, 1974. He was born to the late Jerome A. and Deborah Gordon in Columbus, Ohio, and was the second child born to this
union. As a young child Spanky developed a love for cooking with his mother. He learned and eventually mastered cooking just about anything you could want to eat. And although his father’s life was tragically cut short, the impact on his sons was evident to the point that Spanky developed a love for fingerwaves, just like his father used to wear in his hair.
Spanky attended Columbus public schools and went on to become an entrepreneur and professional tax preparer. We all know he loved and enjoyed the finer things in life. He enjoyed traveling and making memories with those he loved. Spanky could dress with the best of them, and most of his outfits were topped off with nice shades, and at least a few necklaces and rings. No “Spankalicious” look was complete without one of his signature colorful hairdos done by Stephanie Love, his longtime stylist and friend.
Not only did he enjoy nice things, he enjoyed and made time for the people who mattered most, his family and friends. Spanky LOVED his family and friends. His house was always filled with love, food, music, and family. Spanky would light up any room he entered and commanded attention just from his natural personality. He was funny, caring, and would protect those he loved to the very end. If you had the benefit of experiencing his love, you knew without a doubt he would have your back and that his love was genuine and pure.
The sweet gentle voice of our Lord called Spanky into eternal rest on June 7, 2023, at 1:45 AM. We may question God’s timing, but we still trust in His ultimate plan. We thank God for the time He loaned our dear Spanky to us and we know he is greeted in the life to come by his parents, Jerome and Deborah Gordon; grandparents, George and Hazel McGill, and Harry and Thelma Gordon; nephew, Deonte Smith; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Spanky leaves on Earth to celebrate his life: his brother, Jerome L. (Sherri) Gordon; aunts, Angela Gordon, Marilyn Mitchell, Georgina McGill, and Denise (Joe) King; uncles, George (Mona) McGill and Tyrone Gordon; nieces and nephews, Essence Padgett, Heaven Scales, Jerome II, Mahogany, Myzarome, Mytazia, and Myleah Gordon, and Marcus, Brandon, and Daiza Hoston;
special friend, Lamont Reed; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
