Derrick Wilson Obituary

Derrick Wilson was born in Columbus, Ohio, on March 29, 1979, to Juanita Wilson and to the late Willie Wilson. Derrick had a sister, Cynthia Wilson. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Later, he married the love of his life, Rahwa Demess.  They celebrated 14 years of marriage, and they would have celebrated their 15-year anniversary in November of this year.

Derrick was a former member of World Harvest Church where he served on the Usher Board. Derrick joined World Harvest Church in May of 1982 and attended until May of 2011. He
later attended Family Worship Center and remained faithful until his death.

Derrick was a kind, loving, and God-fearing man who was full of life. He was a spitting image of Willie Wilson, his father, all the way down to his heart. They believed everyone deserved love and compassion and to be greeted with a smile. To be in his presence was sheer joy! He would make you laugh and knew no stranger. When you left Derrick, you knew you were loved. He was known as “The Panther” and “The Lamest” because no one was better than anyone else.

Derrick LOVED all sports but especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Carolina Panthers. Derrick loved playing flag football. He was active in his community including church functions and family functions. He loved everyone, and he could also “cut a rug.” Derrick will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live in our hearts forever!

At the age of 44 years old, Derrick was welcomed into the company of his ancestors including his father, Willie Wilson.

His memories will forever be cherished by his wife, Rahwa Wilson; loving son and daughter, Niles Wilson and Naavia Wilson; mother, Juanita Wilson; sister, Cynthia Wilson; and devoted friends.
