Donald F. Weaver was born May 2, 1947 to Gilbert and Ruth Weaver. He was the youngest son of 9 children. Donald had five brothers and four sisters. Donald enlisted in the US Army in November 1968, and served in active combat in Vietnam during the worst part of the war. During his military service, Donald received five honorary medals, including the Bronze Star Medal, which recognizes acts of heroism, outstanding achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. It is the fourth-highest military decoration for valor. He also served in the US Army Reserves for many years after his combat service. He worked for Ohio Bell for many years and was a specialist in his field. When he retired, Donald bought a gas station at the corner of 17th and Woodland Avenues. He was also an expert mechanic and probably did more work fixing people’s cars for free than he ever got paid for.
Donald enjoyed spending time with his beloved sister Ruth, and played an important role in the lives of all of his nieces and nephews. He was known for his quirky humor, bright smile and infectious laugh. Although Donald’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. Donald’s light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
Donald was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, kindness and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. He helped many people in many ways. He was always giving. He truly would give someone the shirt off of his back if they needed it. Donald was a great spiritual leader, excellent role model and the finest example of love this world could ever know. His dedication to his faith and his desire to bring light to those in need epitomized his joyful and generous nature. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Donald was predeceased by parents, Gilbert S. Weaver, Sr. and Ruth, brothers Freddie, Robert, Gilbert, Jr. and David and sisters Joan and Annastine. He is survived by his loving sisters, Ruth Maclin and Judy Talley (William/Doc); and four generations of nieces and nephews who adored him, as well as a host of cousins and special friends who shared in his joyful spirit.
Let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence.
