Dorothy Howard Obituary

Dorothy Jean Jackson Howard was born November 19, 1939, and she transitioned to her eternal rest on January 22, 2024.

Dorothy Jean, as she was affectionately called, was born in Bath County, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Geneva (Rankin) Jackson. She was born into a large and loving family; she had one brother and eight sisters. She spent her formative years growing up in the Bluegrass State, where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and graduated from Dubois High School.

Dorothy Jean moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1971, where she raised her family. She was a hard-working woman who taught her children the value of family and hard work, which she demonstrated daily while employed at National Graphic and Watkins Printing Companies. She loved her family (children, grands, siblings, nieces, nephews), which was evident by the fact that she knew everyone’s birthday and would call and wish you a happy birthday every year. She was the official family record keeper.

Dorothy was loved and cherished by her family and friends. She touched so many lives in a positive way, whether she was opening her home to someone who needed a place to stay, sharing a meal or giving her opinion whether you asked for it or not. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, watching TV, working crossword puzzles, and going on trips.

Dorothy Jean was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Troy Crutcher; granddaughter, LaKeisha Clark; great-grandson, Asiya Rankin; son-in-love Wymund “Doug” Sparrow; sib- lings, brother, Albert Lee Jackson, and sisters, Virginia Jackson, Margaret Frances Hemphill, Mary Edna (Robert) Soles, Florence (Stanley) Wilson, JoAnn (Thomas, Sr.) Fletcher, and Patsy Strickland; and brothers-in-love, Henry Stevens and Norman Cunningham.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dorothea (CL) Rankin, Anthony (Edith) Jack- son, Tyrone Jackson, Jacqueline Sparrow, Bronsha Howard, Nathan Howard, Jr., and Chris- topher Howard; grandchildren, Dominic Sadale Corbin, Ashley Lawrence, LaTasha (Mark) Bester, Darien Sparrow, LaTonda Howard, Aaron Howard, Jaylen Howard, Ortega Crutch- er, Tasha Crutcher, Christian Rankin, Cole Lee Rankin, Shanta Rankin, Carmella Cobb, and Vincent Steele; great-grandchildren, Dominic Sadale Corbin, Jr., Phoenix Nicole Corbin, Cameron Reid, Jr., A’Layna Howard, Tamera Crutcher, Isaiah Crutcher, Camry Myers, Sky- lar Sorrells, Karter Sorrells, Kyla Crutcher, Kierra Young, Kyan Young, Annabelle Rucker, Kingston Rankin, Deshawn Howard III, Rasheye Cobb, Drew Wilson, Dariona Fincher, and JaJuan Steele; great-great-grandchild, Natwon Goddard; sisters, Stella Stevens and Ella Raye Cunningham; brother-in-love, Terry Strickland, Sr.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and best friend and travel buddy, Marva James.
