'Esther L. Staunton was born on December 27, 1937 in Logan, West Virginia to father, Elijah L. Johns and mother, Esther L. Straughter Johns. After the passing of her mother, Esther was raised by her aunt, Juanita and uncle Charles Henderson who she credits to her strength and courageous nature. She was known to speak her mind and did not hold back how she felt about a particular situation.
She was educated in New York at Simmons High School. She enjoyed playing the clarinet. Esther retired from Chase bank after 30 years. She worked in several positions in the bank and was a valued team member. She relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1988. She later joined Mt. Gerizim Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clifford R. Riley.
Esther enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family and friends. She looked forward to spending time at family cookouts, dancing and attending a casino.
She is preceded in death by parents, Elijah and Esther Johns; daughter, Delfhine Staunton, aunt, Juanita Henderson; brothers, Dennis Johns, Albert Johns; sisters, Mary Dixon and Alberta Davis.
She is survived by sons, Daniel, Darren, Duncan and Dana Henderson; sisters, Philistine Harris, Ardella (Bobby) Woody and a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
