Flossie Smith Obituary

Flossie Mae Smith was born in Columbus, Ohio, on June 8, 1937, to Mary Gibson and James Smith. She passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, in care of hospice.

Flossie was revered as a unique and eclectic soul. She lived life on her own terms and danced to the beat of her own drum. She was a fast talker, but always meant what she said. Flossie never drove a car, but she could be spotted at any given time or any given place courtesy of COTA. She was a giving and loving soul who poured into and loved others unconditionally.

Flossie was a stalwart member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over sixty years, until her health began to fail. She served in several capacities at Mt. Olivet including feeding the homeless
every Friday afternoon, and participating in both the senior saints a.k.a. Seasoned Adults with Living Testimonies (SALT) and women’s ministries events.

Flossie was preceded in death by grandmother, Viola Elder; father, James Smith; mother, Mary Gibson; and brothers, Thomas Elder and Donald Caldwell.

Flossie did not birth any biological children; however, she leaves behind a legacy with the many children she cared for and loved. Left to mourn are scores of nieces and nephews, great-
nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, other family, and close friends.

Flossie shared special relationships with nieces, Donna Caldwell, June Elliott Dolly Caldwell, JoAnn Caldwell, and Sandra Caldwell, along with nephew, Don Elliot. Also left to mourn are Mary Caldwell (Flossie’s niece and primary caregiver) and special friends, Rose, Shirley, Francis, Traci, and Ella.

Flossie will be deeply missed and remembered by all those who knew and loved her.
