Gilbert (Gil) Eugene Bailey was born on November 11th, 1949, in Pocahontas, Virginia to Emory and Ruth Bailey.
In 1969, Gil graduated from East High School. During his high school years, he was a member of the Hi Y program and a member of the East High marching band. Gil went on to attend Ohio University where he achieved a Bachelor’s degree in social work.
During Gil’s working career, he was employed with Franklin County Children’s Services, General Motors, and Wonder Bread as well as being an entrepreneur. Gil was naturally gifted at working with his hands; he could fix almost anything. The many home renovations he completed showed his amazing and very detailed craftmanship.
Gil loved to dress nice, especially wearing hats. He liked going to auctions and collecting different collectables. Gil was a connoisseur of the arts such as jazz, plays, concerts, museums, and the like. He also enjoyed singing, cooking, traveling, bowling and hanging out with family and friends. He was a Michigan Wolverines fan and a die-hard, dedicated, all or nothing Cleveland Browns fan. Gil adored his only granddaughter, Nevaeh; he would say her name is “Heaven” spelled backwards.
Gilbert Eugene Bailey is preceeded in death by his father, Emory, and mother, Ruth Bailey; sister, Margaret Knight; niece, Ruth “Yvonne” Bailey; and ex-wife, LaiMari Claybrook Bailey.
