Grace Bernice Hamlet was born on July 3, 1927, in Rhodell, West Virginia, to Samuel Monroe, Sr., and Etna Saxton. She attended Byrd Prillerman High School in Amigo, West Virginia.She met and married Raymond Bernard Hamlet in Rhodell, West Virginia. They attended Rhodell First Baptist Church. Together, they raised their six sons and shared great times together.
Upon the passing of her husband in 1995, she relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where she was able to be closer to her family. It was in Columbus, Ohio, she reunited with the Bethany Baptist Church family. She was employed at the Ohio State University for almost 20 years as a Lab Assistant. She also shared her talents and skills working for Heilig Meyers Furniture Store.
In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Grace was also a talented singer. Grace had a deep love for music, particularly Quartet singing and Gospel music. Her voice could lift spirits and bring joy to all those around her. She dedicated her life to making the world a better place for future generations.
Grace was also famous for her peach cobbler, a dish that was always a hit at family gatherings and events. Her culinary skills were just another way she showed her love and care for those around her. Grace was a beautiful soul who touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a devoted mother who always put her family first. Her kindness, warmth, and wisdom will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hamlet; sons, Raymond Hamlet, Stanlay Hamlet, and Preston Hamlet; and two sisters and one brother.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Alveno “Al” (Teresa) Hamlet, Samuel (Pamela) Hamlet, and caregiver/son, Stevan Hamlet, who cared for her for years, and because of this, her life was extended through the love and comfort he provided; she also is survived by grandchildren, Quenton, Preston Jr., Donnell, Shameka, Kenisha, A’sone, DaKita, Tasha Hamlet, and Al Stewart; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire all.
