Hattie Mae James was born in Greenpond. Alabama, located in Bibb County, August 30, 1932. She entered into eternal peace Monday, March 9, 2020 at Mount Carmel East Hospital, with her loving children at her bedside.
She graduated from Wenonah High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She met and married her husband Charles Sr., in December 1953 and later relocated to Mobile, Alabama. After having moved to Mobile, Alabama, she continued her education and graduated from the University of South Alabama, receiving a Master’s Degree in Education. She was an elementary school teacher in Mobile (4th grade) for several years before moving to Ohio. She later attended the Ohio State University for several semesters, enrolled in courses dealing with developmentally challenged children and EMR children. She was employed by the State of Ohio and worked as a teacher Training Center for Youth (TCY) for more than eleven years before she retired.
At the early age of twelve years, she developed a relationship with the Lord and began reading the bible. As a child, she was baptized into the Baptist faith but always felt there was something missing. Years later, colporteurs came knocking on her door and she knew then that she had discovered the knowledge that she had yearned for, and was soon baptized into the Adventist faith, April 26, 1969. She was commissioned to serve in various capacities as a colporteur, assistant Sabbath School teacher, Deaconess; she also taught at the Adventist Academy for one year. She gave multiple bible studies to anyone who desired one. Allowing God to use her as His instrument, her deepest desire was to lead souls to Christ.
Hattie loved to travel, play Scrabble, Uno, solve fill-Ins, read, crochet, and on occasion, or as necessary, sew. She was not a fan of cooking but certainly cooked well and kept her family well fed and healthy. She will be missed immensely by all who knew her well. She cared deeply and loved unconditionally.
