Reverend James Henry Hancock, Jr. departed this life on Saturday, March 13, 2021. He was born on April 29, 1946 in Margaret, Alabama to the late James and Inez (Mack) Hancock, Sr., one of six children. James was known to many as “Jimmy” and had accepted his call into the ministry in 1982.
He attended Starling Jr. High School here in Columbus, Ohio where he participated in Track and Field and he attended South High School. Hancock was a tremendous athlete in tennis and soft- ball. He excelled at playing flag football for the local semi-
pro team.
He enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War between 1968 and 1970. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
Jimmy and his wife Brooksie loved to fish and travel in their mo- torhome. In more recent years he enjoyed watching old movies, surfing the Internet and going to the park. Jimmy was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He retired as a Bus Driver with the Colum- bus Public School System. He was a faith member at Eliud Chris- tian Missionary Church and associate minister at Power of Faith under the Pastoral Leadership Alonzo James.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Brooksie, brother Larry (Popcorn) Hancock and sister Frankie Steele.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters Trayvonne Tate, Jodell Henderson, Andrea Bailey and Marquetta Hancock; bonus children Kulwant and Stevenson Kooner; sister Sharon Hancock-Stone; brothers Sherman Hancock, Dr. Samuel (Kattie) Hancock and Bryan (Carol) Hancock; and a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren, great- grandchildren, other family members and friends.
