Janice Clark Obituary

Janice Melody (Garrison) Clark was born on January 13, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, to proud parents, James Milton Garrison and Charlene (Bell) Garrison. Janice grew up on the west side of Columbus. She attended Hilltonia Middle School and graduated from West High in 1965. While in school, she enjoyed singing in the choir in both middle and high school. She was the vocal lead in most programs as well as a lead actress in a school play.

Upon leaving high school, Janice attended and graduated from Nationwide Beauty Academy. She then started a long-standing career in the beauty industry. She was professionally mentored by her aunts and father while working at Charmils on E. Long Street. She went on to become a Revlon representative, demonstrating Revlon products at different hair shows in the Midwest region from 1974 to 1975. She also did make up in Lazarus when it was downtown. Janice then went to work at some of the top hair salons in Columbus, Ohio. She made her mark at Chabambas Hair Salon, Heads Turn Heads, and Chez D’ors, before going to work alongside her father at his salon, Chateau of Beauty. She later took over the family salon and rebranded it as Ebony Strands Salon until 2008.

Janice met and fell in love with Charles Clark, Sr., at Willis Beauty Supply, and eventually they married on October 17, 1977. Out of that union were born her children, Charles Clark, Jr., and Charjan Clark. Janice was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Leon Troy, Sr., where she sang in the Mass choir and helped with different auxiliaries. Janice loved vibrant colors and was well known for her sense of style. She loved doing her hair and makeup. She had a smile and eyes that would light up any room, and she will definitely be missed.

Janice was preceded in death by: her parents, James Milton and Charlene (Bell) Garrison; both sets of grandparents, Dossie and Mamie Bell, as well as Robert E. and Mamie Garrison; and other uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Janice was survived by: her former husband, Charles Clark; her children, Charles Clark, Jr., and Charjan (Shameka) Clark; brother, James Milton Garrison, Jr.; sisters, Joye Garrison and Jill (Garrison) Heard; nieces, Kellee Heard and Tracee (Ronald) Wilson; along with a host of sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
