Jerri L ynette Braswell also known as “Jerri Berri/Big Jer/Janjuary” was born June 23, 1992 to Joey Braswell and Serita Sanders. She went to meet her heavenly father on June 23, 2024. She is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Hattie Ann Braswell and Robert Booth, and maternal grandparents Joann Reed and Jerry (Jeanette) Sanders.
Jerri was born in Columbus Ohio where she lived a full life. She was very loving and caring. She had a smile that glowed and a laugh that would fill up the room. Jerri had a heart as big as the universe. She loved to laugh and make jokes out of every situation. Jerri was intentional about her relationships to her children, siblings, parents and many friends. She had a way to make everyone feel like they were family and besties.
Jerri was the family cook. Holidays would always be at her house or she had no problem being the cook at your house. During her free time she loved to travel, she would take girls trips hosted by Nish. Jerri was a proud Girls Trip Member along with Nish, Tae, Bell, Rell, Ty, and Mo. Jerri loved women’s empowerment and enjoyed attending conferences. She was the life of the party and would sing the loudest knowing she didn’t know the lyrics.
Jerri overcame many obstacles in her life. She started from very humble beginnings, yet still she graduated from Columbus City Schools and obtained her associates degree from Columbus State Community College in Early Childhood Development. She was also a part of the Scholar Network as coordinator, and a student ambassador. The Scholar Network is an organization to provide support to students who were previously in foster care. Jerri became a voice and advocate in Washington, DC to fight for change in policies that impact foster youth. As a student at Columbus State Community College Jerri was also a member of the former Student Engagement & Leadership Department, Women’s Connection, TRiO Student Support Services, and Generation One Trailblazers. Most recently, while working as a lead teacher at Columbus Early Learning Center, she was simultaneously earning her degree in massage therapy. Jerri had a dream to create, establish and develop legacy for her children. She made it her personal mission to change the narrative.
Jerri loved her family, she loved her friends, she loved her profession and she loved the Lord. Jerri was a member of Manifestation Church where she was a part of the Millenial Moments (M & M) discipleship group, served in the media department , as a greeter and was amongst the first annually to purchase a VIP ticket to the Jewels Women’s Conference.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her two children Crisean and Paris Thompson, her parents Joey Braswell and Serita Sanders, her siblings Tahaad Sanders, Keon Jones, Patrice (Brandon) Howard, Joann (Demarius) Parnell, Damitria Braswell, and Anna Braswell. She leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
