JoAnn M. Tukes was born on September 13, 1957. “Jo” was all about handling business even from an early age. She was certainly a firecracker. Growing up as the only girl with 3 brothers made her one tough cookie. She accepted Christ at a early age and was baptized at Greater 12th Avenue Baptist Church under Pastor Kee. She was educated in the Columbus Public School System and a graduate of North High School. She later went on to attend Columbus State Community College.
JoAnn started working for Medicare at 21. She retired from Medicare back in 2008. JoAnn possessed a great worth ethic. Jo was a successful career woman and passed down that disciplined work ethic to her family. She was an amazing mother to her only child, Quston. Jo always wanted a daughter, just one, who was just like her. God granted the desires of her heart.
JoAnn was a survivor and beat breast cancer while continuing to work on a full time basis. She drove herself to chemo and would then head in to work, never missing a beat. Her tenacity and courage was incredible.
Jo loved her family more than anything in this world. One thing for certain, if you were not about the right thing and didn’t have your stuff together, she would be the FIRST person to let you know. She also loved sports. She was the ultimate Ohio State Buckeye fan! Jo LOVED shopping and she lived her life to the fullest! A true independent Woman. She was outspoken and direct. She lived her life by being a disciplined individual and demonstrated that to others. If she wanted it, she got it.
