Joe Nathan Broomfield Sr. was born on August 18, 1944 to J.D. and Irista Broomfield, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He departed from us and gained his wings the morning of February 6, 2021.
He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Broomfield, mother Irista Broomfield, father J.D. Broomfield, brothers; Archie Lee, Earnest, Donald, James, and J.C., Sisters; Katherine Banks and Lorraine Ross, and sons; Lamont Broomfield, Joe Broomfield and Kevin Fambro.
Joe was the proud owner of Straight Line Enterprise and The Rising Sun Bar. He mostly loved fishing and hunting. In which he would bring us together for his annual Broomfield Fish Fry. He was one of the best masons in Ohio, specializing in fireplaces and basements. You can see some of him and his sons work throughout the city. He generously passed the knowledge of his trade down to his family and community.
Joe was the patriarch of the Driving Park Neighborhood. He also provided jobs for many.
He loved what he did, but not as much as he loved his family. He was a father to so many others beyond his own children. He was a positive role model for so many, being a black multi business owner. He also, owned many real estate properties through the city. Let us just say “he knew how to GET IT.”
Joe leaves to cherish his memories his daughters: LaTonia Curtis (Tina) and Taisha(Dominique) Matlock, sons: Earnest (Carl) Broomfield, Minister Russell (Betty) Broomfield, Alfredo Patterson, Jeff, Greg, and James Broomfield, and a host of foster children, grandkids, great grandkids, and a great-great granddaughter, Peyton.
