Josephine Brown Obituary

Josephine H. Brown (neé Tidline), 79, of Groveport, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022, after an extended illness. She was born December 22, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, to the union of Reverend Joseph Morrison and Hortense Dorothea Tidline.  She accepted Christ and was baptized into the Holiness Faith at a young age. She was a graduate of East High School and received an Associate’s degree in Social Work from Columbus Technical Institute (CTI), now Columbus State Community College.

Josephine was preceded in death by her mother; father; sister, Anna Mae Artis; husband, Gilford E. Brown, Sr.; son, Jon White; son-in-law, Todd Sutton; and best friend, Paula Champion Tidline.

She leaves a legacy of love to include: brothers, Duane M. (Joyce) Tidline and Lowell E. Tidline; daughters, Patricia (Todd) Sutton, Laurence Renee (Jeffrey) Tillery, and Carolann V. Brown Engler; cousins, Jack and Rick Wilson; great-niece, Comila (aka Millie) Gilliam; niece, Christie (Roderick) Bowdle; nephew, Joseph (Alaina) Tidline; and she was also blessed with her bonus family, Phillip, David, Wendell, and Charles Watkins, Janie Bell, Adrienne Johnson, Lavoris Brown, Gilford Brown, Jr., Anytra Brown, Alagra Weaver, Carrie “Sandy” (Mario) Valdes, Nicole (Michael) Carter, Nichele (Cornell) Lewis, Mario Valdes II, Kimberly (Al) Edmondson, Tony Rosetti, and Kelly Hinkle.

Josephine, aka Jo or Josie, was lovingly called “Ma” by her children and their friends alike. She was Nana or Nonna to her 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, their friends, and the many children she cared for throughout the years.

Josephine was a sweet and kind soul who lived and encouraged living a life filled with acceptance, love, peace, and understanding. She was respected and loved deeply by her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, television, and an eclectic variety of music.  Above all, she loved life, her friends, and her family. She will be deeply missed, cherished, and forever in our hearts.
