Marchel Brooks Obituary

Marchel Lamarion Rasheed Brooks was born on October 28, 2002, to Tamara Valentine and Clarence Brooks. He was called home on February 7, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones. A twin and the youngest of nine, Marchel, or “Chel” as he was affectionately known, was a loving and attentive son, brother, grandson, cousin, and recently, uncle. Marchel’s family was very important to him; he always put them first.

Marchel became a member of Southfield Missionary Baptist church at the age of ten when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. Marchel attended CAHS and Marion Franklin High School. He received many awards and certificates for his efforts and achievements. Chel played for the Buckeye’s little league football, OYSP, and AAU Basketball. He wore the number 23 when playing for Marion Franklin High School Red Devils Basketball team and number 6 when playing football. Chel most recently played flag football for the ‘9ers’ where he won a ring in the tournaments. He always gave his best; he and his twin brother were a force to be reckoned with whether on the field or the court. When not playing sports, Chel enjoyed playing video games, listening to and creating music. He was a young entrepreneur who was generous with his time, talent, and treasures. Chel often found solitude in driving around the city; He would come alive on the basketball court Chel was very charismatic with an infectious smile. He had a creative mind and was always known to be spontaneous, outspoken, and entertaining. He could not resist finding new ways to provoke his older siblings all in the spirit of love. He was a LOYAL, reliable friend, and he was the life of the party.

Marchel was preceded in death by his brothers, S’Neko Martin-Brooks, Dameon Jackson-Brooks and Sage Martin Brooks. He leaves to forever cherish and celebrate his life: mother, Tamara Valentine; father, Clarence (Macho) Brooks; twin brother, Macheo Brooks; brother, Sir Marquis Payne; sisters, Dalyn Caliver, Amaya (Ja’lawntee) Brooks, and Maquilla Payne; grandparents, Anise and Clarence Cox, Crystal (Rigoberto) Gould, and Marc Willis, Sr.; uncle, Marc Willis, Jr.; aunts, LaKeesha Brooks, Etosha Carter, and Martia (James) Scruggs; one and only nephew, Alawantaè Dean; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
