Melvyn Hardy Obituary

Melvyn Douglas Hardy departed this life in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of forty-seven on April 13, 2023, after an extended illness. Melvyn was born on April 10, 1976, in Columbus, Ohio, to Marcia Glass and the late Charles T. Green.

Melvyn attended Columbus City Schools. Melvyn was a loving son, husband, father, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a true diehard fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Lakers, and WWE Wrestling (he actually has a championship belt). Melvyn was fascinated by motorcycles and was a member of the House of Colors Motorcycle Club. Melvyn’s greatest joy was his three grandsons, LaVonta, LaMonta, and LaMichael.

Melvyn was a true comedian; he was absolutely hilarious and he should have been on stage. He enjoyed dancing, singing, and joking around. He was the life of the party most times and he especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed all genres of music, especially his gospel music first thing every morning. Melvyn was a self-proclaimed musician; there was a time when Melvyn was so intent on starting a band, he purchased all the equipment and held jam sessions in his basement. Melvyn loved being the Big Cousin or Big Bro to all his cousins, even
the ones who were older than him. Melvyn also believed he was “The Grill Master” and best cook ever, especially when it came to Collard Greens; they were actually really good.

Melvyn was preceded in death by grandparents, Morris Pollard and Shirley Pollard, and Charles E. Green; father, Charles T. Green; uncles, Kevin Pollard and Michael E. Green; aunt, Konni Fleming; brother, Charles E. Green; and best friend, LeQuan Lee. Melvyn is survived by: loving wife, Yada Lynn Hardy; mother, Evangelist Marcia Hardy-Glass (Norman Glass); sons, Sylvaun Latham and Ramon Hardy; daughters, Ebony Harris and Miyanah Harper-Tatum; granchildren, J’Mikel, J’Sean, JaMia, Lavonta, LaMonta, and LaMichael, all of Columbus, OH.; siblings, Misty (Stephen) Williamson of Dayton OH, Marcus Hardy, and Melva Hardy of Columbus, OH, Tyrone Glass of Dickson, TN, and Sean Green of Columbus, OH; grandmother, Joyce Green (Ernest Williams) of Columbus OH; auntie/mom, Sonya Green; godmother, Charlotte Green of Columbus OH; mother-in-law, Ramona Harper of Columbus, OH; best friend, April Cianciola of Columbus, OH; and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Melvyn Douglas Hardy, affectionally known as OG-Mel, will certainly be missed.
