Michael Jonathan Jennings was born the fifth child of John and Henrietta Jennings on September 13, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio. Mike had an exceptional mind. He skipped the third grade and the nuns wanted to skip him again in junior high, but his mother would not allow that because he was not mature enough for high school yet. Eventually, Mike did make it to High School at St. Mary’s. Michael did extremely well academically and graduated at the age of 16. Michael served his country in the United States Army. Mike studied at the Ohio State University.
Mike had several jobs before becoming employed at Ohio Bell Telephone Company. There he was extremely skillful and proficient, and he retired as the department manager of Engineers at Ohio Bell Telephone.
He was Uncle Mike, or Great Uncle Mike, or GUM, as many called him, related or not! GUM started our family tradition of our Easter Egg Hunt, every Holy Saturday starting at 12:00 noon every year!! This has been ongoing for over 60 years!! Over the years it has grown tremendously. Uncle Mike has met and established a personal relationship with all of his nieces and nephews. They all have some sort of nickname given by him personally. Family was everything to Mike especially his one and only child, JEANNINE.
Jeannine cherished her parents so much that she spared them the knowledge of her illness, and so they wouldn’t worry, until God tapped her shoulder to prepare her to join him eternally. He leaves to cherish his memories: his faithful and devoted wife of 57 years, JoAnne Mizelle Jennings; son-in-love, Michael Taylor; grandsons, Clifford Jordan Jennings and Dominic Taylor; great-granddaughter, Carma Jordan Jennings; sister, Rose Marie Caine; and a host of many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving and beautiful daughter, Jeannine Taylor; great-granddaughter, Dominica Taylor; parents, John and Mary Henrietta Jennings; and siblings, Sylvia Burrs, Jacqueline Munford, Constance Stinson, David Jennings, and John Jennings, Jr.
