Min. Russell Broomfield, Sr. Obituary

Minister Russell Broomfield, Sr., departed this life on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at The Ohio State University Hospital at the age of 56 years old. He was born to the late JoAnn and Joe Broomfield, Sr.   In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his brothers, Lamont Broomfield, Joe Broomfield, Jr., and Kevin Fambro; and first wife, Carla Lynette (Jackson) Broomfield.

He is survived by his current wife, Betty Broomfield; brother, Ernest (Demetries) Broomfield; sister, Latonia (Tina) Curtis, Taisha Matlock, Jeff and James Broomfield, and Greg Broomfield; only son, Russell Broomfield II, daughters, JaToria and Janae Broomfield, Destiny and Breana Jackson; special mom and pop, Howard and Victoria Jackson Meeks; grandchildren, Damiya and Demetris Womack; and Kai and Kayden Broomfield; special aunt (cousin) Cheryl Harrison; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Russell Broomfield graduated from South High School in 1986. He immediately went to work for his dad’s masonry company. It was there he developed his impeccable skills with masonry work. He married his high school sweetheart, Carla Jackson, on June 9, 1990, and they had three children.

Minister Russell Broomfield decided to walk with the Lord at the young age of 23. He began his service to God under the mentorship of Pastor Clarence Thomas, Sr., at New Hope Pentecostal United Holy Church. On May 5, 2013, Minister Broomfield joined Springhill Baptist Church’s ministerial team under Pastor Tommy Hicklin. He wore many hats as a servant of God and truly believed in service to the community. He earnestly believed in evangelism and would not hesitate to testify of the goodness of the Lord. After the passing of his first wife, he met and married Betty Fisher on April 15, 2015.

He worked for VIBO Construction, Incorporated for over thirty years. He helped design, construct, and restore innumerable buildings throughout Ohio, including Easton Park, Children’s Hospital, Columbus City School Buildings, and OSU Hospitals, to name a few. He worked hard to provide for his family. He traveled extensively including to the islands and other countries. His favorite memories were when he cruised with his wife, adult children, family, and friends.

He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. When not working, he would do yard work, making sure his wife could plant her flowers. He liked to work on his houses, ensuring that they remained in the highest quality, which was his standard. He liked to cook on Holidays. He relaxed by fishing at Lake Erie and Fremont with his pastor and close friends. He was an avid fan of Ohio State Football and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed watching his grandson, Demetris (Sonney), play basketball. His favorite genre of music was Gospel. He liked Marvin Sapp’s “Never Would Have Made it” and Rance Allen’s “Something About the Name, Jesus”.

Minister Broomfield lived life to the fullest, serving God and being the best example of a man, husband, father and friend.
