Richard “Crow” Earl Thompson, 81, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at St. Ann’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Jessie Thompson and Lessie Starr. Richard was affectionately called “Crow” by close family and friends.
Richard was born January 2, 1942, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His father later moved the family to Columbus, Ohio, where he spent the rest of his time. He was known as one of East High School top basketball players where he received his high school diploma. He retired from the Ohio Malibu Steel Company where he worked for over two decades. He later went into business for himself making him one of the most well-known OG’s on the East Side throughout the Mount Vernon area. Crow was a highly-educated man allowing him to be very successful in his life. His lifestyle revolved on very structured time setting. He loved the finer things in life: Cadillac’s, jewelry, brims, women, Stacy Adam Gators, and high-quality fashion suits. If he wanted something, he bought it!! His motto was, “If you have to look at the price tag, you shouldn’t be buying it!” If you knew Crow, you know his relationship with his family and friends was always top priority. He was a protector and fighter until the very end, and he will truly be missed!
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie “SweetPea” Thompson; sisters, Mahan, Rosa Reece, Jessie Thompson, and Elizabeth “Libby” Williamson; and brother, James “JT” Thompson.
Loving memories are cherished by his wife, Renee Thompson; daughters, Richilde (Charles) Madison, Michele (Willie) Gilbert, Nichelle (Ernest) Norman, Seantee’ Banks, Ashley Givens, and Ashlee Stevens; sons, Rickey McMicheal, Christopher Thompson, Levar Thompson, and Damien Sheppard; brother, Jenkins “Basir” Smith; and a host of nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins. He shared a very special son-like bond with Olando “ Big Guy” Moore, and two of his very best friends, Stan (Beverly) Humphrey and Sherman “Bodi” Robinson.
