Robert Charles Whitner, Sr., affectionately known as “Pops”, 87, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on September 12, 2025. He was born on July 13, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Louise and Carl Whitner. He later moved to Xenia, Ohio, where he attended school. At 17, Robert proudly entered the United States Air Force. Robert pursued his entrepreneurial spirit by owning a commercial janitorial business and working as a licensed contractor, where he guided and mentored many youth. Later, he devoted his career to The Ohio State University, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 1999.
He enjoyed jazz music, fishing, cooking, and football, and he proudly cheered for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. Known for his humor and famous dad jokes, Robert brought joy to many. In 1980, he gave his heart to Christ and became a devoted member of Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served faithfully on the Deacon and Hospitality Committees.
