Russell Eugene Barlow, Sr., a man known for his strength, humor, and deep love for his family, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
He could do it all—and did. From plastering to furniture building, to rehabing homes, cooking full meals, janitorial work, and grandpa duties, Russell lived with purpose and poured loved into the lives of everyone around him. He was known for being a provider, a jokester, and the kind of man whose presence was felt before he even spoke.
A good day for Russell was seeing the people he loved and enjoying a cold beverage with a good laugh. He didn’t need much—just family, love, and a reason to clown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ples C. Barlow, Jr., and Hattie P. Barlow; son, Russell Barlow, Jr.; brothers, Robert H. Barlow, Sr., and Timothy Barlow; and a beloved extended family member, Anderson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, LaTashia Barlow-Dixon (Lopez Dixon) with two children and two grandchildren; daughter, Saundra Barlow with seven children and four grandchildren; son, Rusty Barlow (Twylia Barlow) with nine children and six grandchildren; daughter, Rhonda K. and family; son, the late Russell Barlow, Jr., with five children, five grandchildren, and one grandchild on the way; and host of other children who loved him and were loved by him; sister, Joyce Barlow-Williams, lovingly known as “Sissy;” brother & best friend, Eric Barlow.
Russell deeply loved his nieces and nephews, and he made sure they always felt like they belonged. Whether through jokes, hugs, or support, he left no doubt that they were his heart, too. He was a proud father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, and to so many more, he was the man who made them feel seen, safe, and loved.
