Throughout J.R.’s life, he embodied the essence of love, compassion, and resilience. His unwavering spirit and unwavering commitment to kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether it was through a warm smile, listening ear or a helping hand, J.R. left an incredible mark on the hearts of those around him. His legacy of love and empathy will continue to inspire us all as we navigate life’s journey.

J.R. was that guy that everyone liked. He was always thoughtful and considerate of others. A native of Columbus, J.R grew up here and attended school here. It was his former school, Guiding
Light Chrisitan Academy, that made a significant impact on his life which led to his decision to give his life to the Lord. J.R.’s greatest accomplishment was being a father. Jaleisha was the love
of his life. He loved speaking about her. The love he had for his daughter was unmatched. Being a dad to her and her sister, Jelena, meant everything to him. The memories that they made together is something that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

J.R. was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Elrea Renee Morgan-Clark and Michael Clark, Sr.; father, Sanver Lee Hanks, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Charles Shields, Mary Morgan-Cole and Grandfather Sanford Coleman, Jr; paternal grandparents, Jessie and Cora Lee Hanks; his brother, Jason Hanks; uncles, Melvin Robinson, Sr., and Jerry Hanks ;and his nephew, Sinnea Thomas, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his beloved daughter, Jaleisha Vick; daughter’s mother, Jana Vick; stepdaughter, Jelena Vick; sisters, Sharmella Morgan and Ellen Nicole Betton; brothers,
Donta Washington, Sinnea Thomas, Sr., Jonathan Hanks, Michael Clark Jr., and Demetrius Hollman; nephews, Rasheed, Diallo and Jay’Air Morgan, Khy’Lani Lewis, Jayzon and Legend Hanks,
Jayceon Phillips, Rashad Spencer, Jimmy, Desmond, and Isaiah Thomas; nieces, Angel, Jaleigha, Kyuauna and Dynasty Hanks, Naomi Day, Diamon Horton, Aaliyah Washington, NaTori Scott, and Adore Hollman and Dia’Ara Morgan; special aunts, Nicole Morgan and Kasandra Clark; special cousin, Romell Morgan, along with his aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins and friends.

As we mourn the loss of J.R., let us also celebrate the beautiful life he lived.  His legacy is not only found in the memories we hold dear but also in the lives he touched and hearts he uplifted.
