Shawn Bryson, Sr. Obituary

With heavy hearts and loving remembrance, we celebrate the life of Shawn Lamont Bryson Sr., age 55, who passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at home surrounded by his beloved children. Shawn was born on April 18, 1971, in Columbus, Ohio, to Thomas Bryson and Sarah Moore. His life was a gift to all who knew him, and his presence brought laughter, comfort, and joy into every room he entered.

Shawn will be remembered for his heart of gold, his kindness, and the deep love he had for his children, family, and friends. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, dancing, singing even though he couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, cracking jokes, strategy with chest board, playing cards, gambling and a good game of dominoes. More than anything, Shawn knew how to live life fully and bring people together. To those who loved him, he was proudly known as “RENT-MAN,” a name displayed on the side of his maroon and gold van and carried in the memories of everyone who knew him. Shawn had a way of making people feel welcome the moment they met him. He was quick to give out nicknames, whether you agreed with them or not, and by the time you left his presence, you were likely going home with a new name and a smile.

Shawn rarely raised his voice, unless it was to greet someone in that unforgettable raspy voice: “What it do? How ya fam? What you doin’? What you up too?” Those words, spoken in the way only Shawn could say them, will forever echo in the hearts of his loved ones. His humor, warmth, and larger-than-life personality made him one of a kind.

Shawn received his education through Columbus Public Schools, now known as the Columbus City School System. Throughout his life, he worked hard and used his many talents in different ways, including at the steel mill, White Castle, through his own lawn care and hauling services, and later with Sanfilippo Produce before his illness. Shawn was skilled with his hands, generous with his time, and determined to help whenever someone needed him. Whether fixing something, hauling something, or simply showing up for someone, he gave from the heart.

He was preceded in death by Grandparents, George and Clementine Moore; Aunts: Georgeann Tatum, Tommie-Jean; Uncles, Aaron, Walter, Johnny Moore all of Canton, Ohio and Walter Bryson; brother, Troy Moore; Sister,Brandi Bryson; Nephews, Victor Burress, Tyre King, Dwayne  and Dominique Johnson all of Columbus, OH.
