Sherlene Dowdy Obituary

Sherlene Dowdy was born a twin on September 3, 1948, to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Owen Leslie Dowdy, Sr. Sherlene gained her wings peacefully at home on Thursday, February 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Mary Dowdy; twin sister, Charlene (Char) Dowdy; brothers, Owen Dowdy, Jr., Rodney Dowdy, and Alonso Dowdy; and niece, Tonya Dowdy-Alexander of Oakridge, TN.

Sherlene worked at Ohio Dominican University in food service for many years and later retired from Mohun Healthcare at St. Mary’s Sisters of the Springs for over 20 years. She was truly a servant by heart and had a passion for working with people. Sherlene was a God-fearing woman, and in her obedience to the Lord, Sherlene was led to form a ministry of giving and service called, “Great Women of God.” She was serious about God’s work and had a great team of ladies with whom she worked closely in this ministry to bless those less fortunate. She always included a scripture as her way of sharing the love of God with others.

To know Sherlene was to love her. She had a warm and loving spirit. She was a comforter, a prayer warrior, and a great listener. Her love had no boundaries. She would literally give you the shirt off her back or the jewelry off her wrist. You would often find her having fun any way she could, laughing, being silly, and singing. She had a knack for interior decorating and loved anything sparkly. She enjoyed listening to gospel and country music. What she enjoyed more than anything was spending time with family; her daughters and grandchildren were her whole world. Sherlene just loved life and was truly a beacon of light.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughters, Shannon (Robert) Prince, Syreeta Dowdy, and Shaneice Dowdy; grandchildren, Ryen (Dionne) Stewart, Alexsis Prince, Xavier Prince, Taunquai (Slate) Dowdy, Douglas (Pooh) Tyson, Chance Wells, Chayce Dowdy, Chad Dowdy, Terrence (Stone) Dowdy, Maisha (Rondal) Rowe, Michael Rash, and Malachi Rash; great-grandchildren, Natalie Stewart, Rhiley Stewart, Corey Beal, Martai Tyson, Messai Tyson, Symone Rowe, Carter Rowe, and Matthias Rash; special nieces, Trina Nesbitt, Amanda Davis, and Tamara Sutton; sisters, Priscilla (Joseph) Freeman, Alethia (Maanam) Amos, Shurrone Dowdy, Arlis Giles, and Constance Chapman; brothers, Christopher Dowdy and Donald Dowdy; and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. We would like to give a special mention to her friends of the Fieldstone Community where she resided for over 14 years.
