Shirley Mae Barker was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio, since the age of two. She attended and graduated from Central High School. Shirley worked for Grill n’ Skillet and Paul’s Restaurant for many years, from where she retired. She enjoyed reading, cooking, crossword puzzles, and most importantly spending time with her loved ones. She had a special love for grandchildren, Clifton Jamesha and Alon’nah, whom she would refer to as her “besties.” She worked so hard for many years to provide for her family and others that she adopted as her family. Her heart was made of pure gold, with nothing but genuine love to give. She was truly loved and appreciated by everyone she came in contact with.
Shirley was the only child. She had four children with husband, Calvin Barker. She had a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
