Stephen Lewis Johnson came into this life on February 22, 1954 in Columbus, OH. He was born to Donna Smith and George Washington Locket. Stephen or “Stevie” as he was lovingly called, lived with family friends Miss Margie and her husband Kenny until the age of 18 when he stepped out on his own as a young man. He met his love Jackie Stitt through his brother Mike and his girl Anna Mae Jones. They dated for three years, had baby Stephen Jr., and were married in 1973. Stephen and Jackie parted after some years and he met and married Sheila Mathis, and then Helen Peterson and eventually met and married Aleatha (Spann) Johnson until her death in 2019.
Stephen worked at Buckeye Steel with his friend Colbert Riley and then moved to Jeffery Foundries, and after that Crane Plastics. His career took him to AT&T as a repair lineman and finally into building maintenance where he ran the maintenance team at Thurber Village. Afterwards, Stephen was head of maintenance for Wallick Communities until he was forced to retire due to health issues.
Stephen left this earth on July 25, 2024 and was preceded in death by his grandmother, Esther Louise Moore, Grandfather Louis Moore, mother Donna Smith-Dodge, Miss Margie, Mr. Kenny, who helped to raise him along with his mother Donna. He is also preceded in death by sister Carla Carter, brother, Michael Smith, and nephew, Joshua Jones.
Stephen leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Stephen L. Johnson Jr, his mom, Jacqueline Johnson, Finess Johnson, son Ryan, and daughter Celeste Stidoms. Granddaughters, Carzia Johnson and Jaelyn Johnson, brother, Robert E. Smith, sisters, Terri Johnson, Tanya Long and Kalice Smith, special cousin Melanie Stephens, special friend Helen, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
