Tanya Jane Howze, affectionately known as “Pookie”, was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 21, 1964 to Virginia Edwards and Elijah Washington. Pookie attended Columbus City Schools and was a 1982 graduate of Marion-Franklin High School.
Tanya was amazing. To know her was truly to love her. She loved food, reading books, listening to music, playing games on her phone, skating, bowling, working on cars with her husband Cecil, singing and dancing, and spending time with her friends and family. Tanya was the type of person who could make water wine and could make friends become family. Her children’s friends became her children, and she loved and “adopted” them all. Her heart was pure and full of love. She showed true love and everyone loved them some Pookie.
On March 3rd, 2023 Tanya heard the gentle voice of God calling her, tell her to, “Come Home”. Although we may not agree or understand we bow in submission to the will of God realizing we were blessed with Pookie, but she has always belonged to God. She was instantly greeted at Heaven’s gates by her parents Virginia Edwards and Elijah Washington.
She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy husband Cecil Lee Howze, Sr.; children Trondria (Bryan) Goins, Tyrishia Ferguson, and Cecil Lee Howze, Jr.; grandchildren Bryan (Nazjahnie) Goins II, Devin Goins, Jamel Goins, Myana Moses, Marcel Moses, Christopher Coleman, and Mylah Moses; great grandchild Ni’Yani Goins; siblings Alberta (Otis) Sharp, Tony Millsap, Thomas Millsap, Willie Washington, Elijah Washington; godfather Robert Green; her sister girls Tootie, Sheillie, and Shanye, a host of other relatives and friends.
She was more than a mother, more than a friend, more than a wife, was life and beyond. She was a beautiful soul and she will be missed. Amen
