Tyra Harris Obituary

Tyra Lynn Harris graced the world with her presence on Monday, April 19, 1971 in Columbus, Ohio to Bonnie Lynn Harris and Thomas E. Pierce II. She gained her wings on Friday, February 12, 2021 at her residence. Tyra lived life to its fullest and made the most of every moment. She unconditionally loved her family that includes five children, Antonio (Neek), Ryan, Tyreeka, Bernard and Berneicia. She was blessed with  thirteen grandsons and on her 48th birthday, April 19, 2019 God graced her with her only granddaughter, My’Talia.

She was educated in Columbus City Schools and attended South High School.  A dedicated hard worker, she was an Executive Steward at Hollywood Casino Columbus. Two days prior to her transition she learned she was selected to participate in their International Women’s Day 2021 Initiative and would be featured in Penn National Gaming, the casino’s corporate magazine.

Having a strong belief in God Tyra attended Columbus City Church-Reynoldsburg under the leadership of Pastor Erik Miles. It was this steadfast belief and faith in God that kept her standing strong  during trying times in her life. Her strength and determination were exhibited most as a single parent. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family without complaint and regardless of cost. She enjoyed the little things that created great memories, theme-styled parties (Freddie Kreuger and Clowns) for her grandchildren, or flying to Miami to celebrate life with her children. She wholeheartedly took on projects and tasks, large or small, with a mastery unmatched by many.

MILLION DOLLAR SMILE could be her name! Her SMILE was INFECTIOUS! Her SMILE was MEDICINE! Her SMILE was SATISFACTION! Her SMILE was BLESSED! Her SMILE was the SPIRIT OF GOD! Her lightheartedness was irresistible and she could never pass up a good laugh! Tyra will be best remembered for her love, kindness, and Infectious MILLION DOLLAR SMILE! And let us not forget her unique style -that Chick could dress from head to toe.

Tyra is preceded in death by her father, Elder Thomas E Pierce II; grandfathers, Henry Harris and Thomas E. Pierce Sr.; grandmothers, Mary L. Harris and Marilyn (Robert) Mankins; aunt, Anita Pierce; uncle, Howard Harris; sister, Tamara Pierce; cousins, Thomas, Kevin, and Talisa; niece, Harminee Robinson and step-father, Johnny Barnes.

In addition to her five children, Tyra is survived by her beautiful and loving mother, Bonnie; sister, Tonia (Charles) Ferguson; brothers, John Harris, Thomas III (Ta’sha), and Marcus Pierce; uncles, Stan (India) Harris, Bishop Jerry (Alice) and Gregory Pierce; aunts, Brenda, Karen, and Pamela Harris, Toyna Reid, and Cheria Pickens; great aunt, Florence Booker; nephew, Michael Forrest Jr.; nieces, Michekka Forrest, Maleeka Day; grandchildren, Antonio Harris Jr., Nequan Harris, Bernard Harris Jr., Tai'john Harris, Ryan Harris Jr., Jamaryeon Harris, Jayceon Harris, Thomas McCamey, Rakhi Albert, Zyeon Harris, Javon Vancleaf Jr., Kenwood Wilkerson Jr., Kendrick Wilkerson, Karter Mosley, My'Talia Harris; and many other Family and Friends. Don’t despair because your name is not there, know that it is too many to name, but the love is all the same.
