Uvella Juanita Mullins Lauderdale was born November 4, 1937 in Lynch, Kentucky, to the late Cecil and Naomi Mullins. Uvella attended Lynch Colored School until her family migrated to Ohio after the death of her father in 1952. Once in Columbus, Uvella attended Columbus Public Schools, graduating from East High School, Class of 1955. After graduating Uvella got her first job and Lazarus working in the offices. But then took and passed the government test and began working at ECSCE, also known as the DEPOT. She worked there for 32 years before retiring. She began working for Columbus City Schools for 10 years before retiring for good. After she began caring for her great-grandchildren. So in her own words, she was still working.
Uvella gave her life to the Lord at an early age at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Lynch, KY. Once she moved to Columbus, she joined Shiloh Baptist Church There, she served on the Women’s Usher Board for many decades.
In 1955 Uvella met Darnell Lauderdale. The two would eventually marry and from this marriage came her only child, Jeffrey. Uvella was a devoted and loving mother to Jeff. Supporting him in all his sports and activities. She especially loved to watch Jeffrey play football. It was watching him that her love for football was born. Uvella was also a loving grandmother and great grandmother, more affectionately known as MoMo to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Uvella was preceded in death by her parents, sister Frenetta, brother Robert. She is survived by her son Jeffrey (Latoya), granddaughter Letia Lauderdale Thomas, grandson Jeffrey Jr, granddaughter Zion, grandson Solomon, great grandchildren Ja’Niya, Destiny, Timothy Jr, So’lay, A’lere, and A’merah; sister Vivian Moore, and brother Ryland. And 4 generations of nieces and nephews.
