Vickie Dorsey Obituary

Vickie Lynn Dorsey Richmond, age 66, affectionately known as Mother Vickie, closed her eyes and opened them in the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. She was born on August 24, 1954, in Burlington, North Carolina, to Joan Dorsey-Edwards and was raised by Roosevelt and Lucille “MeMaw” McLain. As a teenager, she moved to New York, and lived there for several years. After graduation, she returned to North Carolina, as a young adult and met the man who would later become her husband.

In 1998, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, to support her mother, Joan, through a health crisis. Three years after the passing of her mother, Lucille “MeMaw” McLain and Vickie were reunited. Vickie was blessed to take care of her MeMaw until her passing. While in Columbus, when not overseeing food service activities in various schools, she and her cousin, Sheila, would spend time searching out antiques and fine paintings, shopping and attending church. Vickie was a beautifully loved member of Powerhouse Beulahland Church, under the leadership of Apostle Marcellus and Co-Pastor Ledejeuner Winters and was the Northern District State Mother for New Beginning International Fellowship of Covenant Churches, founded by Chief Apostle Melvin L. Goolsby. She had great love, and candy, for anyone who walked through the doors of the church or her home.

On February 12, 2012, she married longtime friend, Donald Richmond. Donald’s love for her was unique and special, like no other. Vickie was his baby. Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Lucille McLain and Joan Dorsey-Edwards, Uncle Earl Dorsey, Aunt Mary Wharton, her sister, Brenda Jacobs, cousin, Sheila Love, and fur baby, Oreo. She leaves behind to cherish loving memories: her husband, Donald Richmond; children, Rakeen (Samantha) Dorsey and Jabarr Bean; step- daughter, Tiffonie Madden; grandchildren, Carter Dorsey and Aiden Bean; siblings, Trechena Grier, Lee (Kitten) Edwards, Jr., Pam Mitchiner, and twins, Douglas (Tonja) Edwards and Denise (Otis) Perkin; sisters-in-law, Parthenia Ingram and Peggy Robinson; cousins, Twiggy Leftenant, Donna Goins, and Diane (Frank) Adams; nieces, Diamond Easley, Diodra Edwards, Tyra Edwards, Lakila Peck, Latoya Peck, Chanel Carlisle, and Renita Mitchiner; and several great nephews and great-nieces. She also leaves behind to celebrate her life, her goddaughter, Rita Ragland, best “sista-friend”, Mary Jenkins, and many other loved ones.
