Yvette Hicks Obituary

Yvette was born on December 19, 1957, to Eugene Goudy and Juanita Harris of Fostoria, Ohio. In loving memory of Wheezy, who passed away on January 30, 2025, at the age of 67, surrounded by family and friends.

Yvette was a beacon of joy to all who knew and loved her.  Her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. Yvette was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She dedicated her life to nurturing those around her, often putting the needs of others before her own. Her deep love for family and friends was evident in everything she did.  She was a proud mother of two daughters, Shawnda and Kristen Hicks, and doting grandmother of four grandchildren, Jayshawn, Major, Devin, and Ka ’Saun. Yvette also leaves behind her brothers, Mark and Scott Harris and Wesley Goudy, and sister, Kathy Talbert.

As a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, she was a part of Gamma Zeta Chapter in Columbus, Ohio. Yvette became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, XI Gamma Chapter at The Ohio State University on March 12, 1977. Yvette embraced the values of Sisterhood, Scholarship, Finer, Womanhood, and Service. It is through this affiliation that “Wheezy” will be remembered for laughter, tough love, and a feisty personality.

Yvette’s passion for education led her to return to college to earn not only her bachelor’s but also her master’s degree in early childhood education.  She was voted for teacher of the year for multiple years, where she inspired countless students with her creativity, sternness, and unwavering support.  Her warm smile and encouraging words fostered a space where children felt valued and capable.  Beyond her career of education, she volunteered with the food pantry at many churches, tutored children, and always went above and beyond to help others.

Yvette had an infectious smile that would light up the world.  Her laugh and sharp wit were so contagious, they made everyone around just as happy. She was a beautiful person inside and out.  Yvette was a feisty firecracker that you couldn’t help but love. Her presence could fill a room and change the atmosphere instantly.  As we say, “see you later,” to a truly beautiful soul, let us carry
Yvette’s spirit with us. A reminder to live with love, kindness, and an open heart. Your light will forever shine bright in our hearts, Yvette—you will be forever missed, remembered, and continuously loved in our hearts.
