Yvonne Sayles

Yvonne Sayles was born on August 24, 1940. She departed this earth on December 30, 2020.

Yvonne was born and raised in East Orange, NJ. She graduated from East Orange High School. She later moved to Columbus, OH, in the mid 90’s.

Umi, as we called her, which means mother in Arabic, had unconditional love for family, both relatives and spiritual, and let’s not forget how dearly she loved members of the fellowship. But nothing compares to the love she had for grandchildren; 17 gr8-grandchildren; five gr8-gr8-grandchildren. She loved taking care of everyone’s babies. Her smile and eyes would light up any room.

Umi was a faithful and a loved member of Gospel Lighthouse Church, where she served as a greeter, sang in the choir, and in “Boots on the Ground.”

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Oneill; son, Scott Sayles; and brothers, George and Thomas Roberts.
Umi is survived by: her children, Kendra, Glenn, and Trent Sayles; sisters, Kathy Ranos, Debbie Watts, and Nyna Allen; grandchildren, Nyeema, Quaddim, Jamil, Lakendra, Frank, Nikkimah, Yaasir, Nyesha, and Shaharrizodd; 17 gr8-grandchildren; five gr8-gr8- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
